Steve has coached youth sports for over three decades, most of it with the El Segundo Eagles. Everything on this page came out of doing the job, not out of theorising about it.

The team is a third of the job
Most coaching advice is about the players. In practice, a season is decided by the whole village around them: the parents in the stands, the assistant who turns up, the person running the league, and whether any of them know what is expected.
That is what The Village Chief is about, and it is what these tools are for. Get the village organised in the preseason and the season mostly takes care of itself.

The last team he coached
From 2019 through the end of 2024, Steve coached a group of girls and created a journey that nobody involved will ever forget.
In July 2022 the Eagles 12U All-stars dedicated their run at the USA Softball Western National Championship to Steve's sister, Belynda. They played for something much bigger than themselves.
